This is my first ever blog post. I know, I know. I’m a little late to the party. But let’s call it fashionably late, shall we?
Anyway, now that I’m here, I’d like to talk about something important right up front: spelling. The correct way to spell the contraction for “you all” is “y’all.” It just is. You’re never going to see any of that “ya’ll” nonsense on this blog. Ever.
One of my girlfriends insists that “ya’ll” is an acceptable spelling. I love her to death, and think she is generally brilliant, but she is wrong about this. I know because she is from Florida by way of New York. I also know because of the rule of contractions. An apostrophe is used in place of omitted letters. That means “ya’ll” cannot be the contraction for “you all.” The end.
Whew. I feel better already. Starting this blog was a good idea. Onward!
